Budapest, Erzsébet krt. 9-11, 1073 Ungarn
Classical music, marbel walls, chandeliers and golden details is the sight that will meet you when you arrive at New York Café in Budapest. The extraordinary café is known to be the most beautiful in the world, and is a part of the New York Palace hotel.
In it’s earlier years it was popular amongst writers and editors, and was in fact a place where newspapers were edited – upstairs in the gallery. The café is over a hundred years old, and has gone through many eras. It wasn’t restored back to the original until 2006.
The menu offers a little bit of everything; from hungarian goulash soup and afternoon tea, to burger and ceasars salad. Regardless, you’re not here for the food. It’s really not that great, but the place and atmosphere is worth every penny you leave behind. My recommendation is to share the afternoon tea plate with sparkling rosé, or maybe the cheese platter. Enjoy the live music and your surroundings. This is actually the most beautiful café I’ve ever been to!
Ps. Remember to book a table. It’s a quite nice feeling to walk past all those standing in the (really) long line.
